How work injury compensation works, step by step

Get medical treatment at your employer's cost
Your employer must cover the full cost of medical treatment until you recover or a disability is confirmed. You should not be paying out of pocket for care tied to a work injury.

Keep your wages while you recover
During the treatment period you are entitled to full pay for up to six months. If treatment continues beyond that initial period, you receive half pay for an additional six months.

Report the injury to MoHRE without delay
Report any work-related injury or occupational illness to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) within 48 hours of the incident. Reporting on time protects your right to claim.

Understand compensation for permanent disability
If a work injury results in permanent total disability, compensation is calculated on your basic salary: an amount equal to 24 months of basic salary, between AED 18,000 and AED 200,000. The exact current figures should be confirmed on the authority's website.

Know the entitlement in the event of death
If a work injury or occupational illness results in death, the employee's family receives compensation equal to 24 months of the basic salary, within the same AED 18,000–200,000 range.

Expect payment within the set timeframe
Once the medical report confirming the injury or disability is received, compensation must be paid within 10 days of that report.

Be aware of when the right can be forfeited
An employee may forfeit their right to compensation if it is proven that the injury was deliberately self-inflicted.
