Five things that save you money and time

  • Buy Burj Khalifa and Museum of the Future tickets online in advance: walk-up prices are higher, and sunset slots plus weekends sell out days ahead.
  • Reference information: confirm prices, ratings and schedules with the operator.
  • Taxis are affordable and reliable (all metered), but on Friday evenings Downtown traffic grinds to a halt — the metro is the faster call.
  • Half of Dubai's best is free: the fountains, beaches, the old town, Souk Madinat, and the marina. A ticket-free day is a genuinely great day.
  • Friday and Saturday are the local weekend: malls and beaches get packed. Museums and parks are far more comfortable on weekdays.

Frequently asked questions

How many days do you need in Dubai?
At least 3 full days: Downtown, Palm Jumeirah with a beach day, the old town, and a desert safari. With 5–7 days the city unfolds at a relaxed pace and there is still time for Abu Dhabi. On a layover, a single day is enough to fit in the Burj Khalifa, the fountains, and the old town.
What can you see in Dubai for free?
Quite a lot: the Dubai Fountain show, JBR and Kite Beach, the Al Fahidi historical district, the Al Seef and Marina Walk promenades, Souk Madinat, and the Deira souks. The Creek crossing on a traditional abra costs a symbolic 1 dirham.
Is the Ain Dubai observation wheel operating?
Ain Dubai has been on pause since 2022 and has only opened sporadically. Check the current status on the official website before you visit — the view of the wheel from JBR beach is still very much there.
Where to Go with Kids?
Aquaventure and Wild Wadi (water parks), IMG Worlds and Ski Dubai (indoor — a lifesaver in summer), Dubai Aquarium, Safari Park, The Green Planet. In season, Global Village is every bit as big a hit with kids as it is with adults.
How Expensive Is Dubai for Tourists?
