How work patterns are structured
- 1
Know where the rules live
The types of work approved in federal entities are set out in Article 9 of the Executive Regulations of the Human Resources Law in the Federal Government. It names four approved types: full time, part time, temporary work and flexible work. When you want the definitive wording, this is the article to point to.

Understand part-time work
Under the part-time system, you work for a federal entity for a specific number of working hours or days. That can be at the workplace, remotely, or in a hybrid mode. If you need a lighter commitment or a mix of home and office, this is the pattern to ask about.

Check if the role is temporary
Temporary work means you're engaged for a specific assignment, and the contract ends once that assignment is completed. It's worth confirming up front whether a post is tied to a project rather than open-ended.

See how flexible work behaves
Under the flexible work system, working hours or days may change based on the entity's volume of work and its economic and operational variables. In practice, the employee may work for the employer at variable times according to work conditions and requirements — so expect your schedule to shift with demand.
- 5
Know where you can work from
Beyond the employment type, federal entities approve several work locations: on-site work at the premises of the entity, remote work from anywhere in the UAE, remote work from abroad, intensive working hours (a compressed work week), and hybrid work. Ask which of these your entity offers for your role.
- 6
Read the contract for pay and benefits
Salaries and benefits vary depending on the employment pattern, the type of work contracted, and the mechanisms and benefits of the contract. The terms that actually bind you are set out in the employment contract or any agreement between the federal entity and you — so read those documents closely, and check current figures on the authority's website rather than assuming.
