Gender Balance in the UAE: What It Means and Where to Look

Understanding gender balance in the UAE

1. 1

   Know who leads the effort

The UAE Gender Balance Council was established in 2015 to ensure that Emirati women continue to play a leading role in the development of the UAE. It is the federal body that drives this agenda.

   Understand what the Council does

The Council is charged to oversee the implementation of best practices and processes to ensure federal institutions achieve their gender balance targets. Among its functions, it reviews legislation, policies and programmes to achieve gender balance in the workplace.

3. 3

Read the official Gender Balance Guide

In September 2017, the Gender Balance Council launched the Gender Balance Guide: Actions for UAE Organisations (PDF 500 KB), prepared by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). It is the practical reference for organisations.
