How to check school fees the right way

Understand what drives the fee
Educational councils and zones in each emirate regulate fees in private schools, and the amount differs depending on school type, curriculum and facilities, and school ranking. So before comparing prices, be clear on which of these you're comparing — otherwise you're comparing schools that aren't really alike.

Know how Dubai schools are allowed to raise fees
In Dubai, for-profit schools can increase their fees based on their individual school grade — this comes from the results of the Dubai School Inspection Bureau (DSIB) and the Education Cost Index (ECI), which is calculated on a regular basis. A higher-graded school has more room to raise fees, so the ranking matters both for quality and for cost.

Pull the current numbers from KHDA Open Data
Rather than relying on hearsay, look up the exact fee for a named school. KHDA publishes open data on private schools, which is where the current amount for each school lives. We don't quote a per-year figure here because it changes — check it directly on the authority's website.

Factor in support for students of determination
The admission of students of determination and the provision of support needed for them is also taken into account while determining the fees. If your child needs additional support, ask the school how this affects the published fee before you commit.

Check the school's ranking before you enrol
In July 2016, the Ministry of Education made a resolution that prohibits UAE nationals from registering and funding private schools with a 'very weak' ranking. This resolution was implemented since the academic year 2016-2017. Confirm a school's current ranking so your choice is both a good fit and a permitted one.
