Getting started

Pick your nol card type
RTA offers several nol types — from a 'guest' card for tourists to a permanent rechargeable card for residents (with concession options for some categories). A permanent card is best registered in your name.

Buy and top up the card
nol is sold and topped up at metro stations, machines, bus stops, partner shops and in the RTA app. Load the balance in advance.

Tap in and tap out
On metro and tram you tap both when entering and exiting — so the system counts trip zones and charges the correct fare. On buses you tap when boarding.

Plan your routes
Check metro, tram, bus and water transport routes in the RTA app or on rta.ae. Transfers between modes are factored into the fare.

Check balance and concessions
See your balance and trip history in the RTA app. Some categories (students, etc.) have concession cards — check terms on rta.ae.
