Paying for a public parking space, step by step

   Read the payment booth before anything else

   Information about the parking timings, fees and modes of payment are indicated on the payment booths in the parking areas. This is the authoritative sign for the bay you are in — it tells you the hours the zone is chargeable, what it costs and which payment methods that booth accepts. We don't publish a rate here, because parking fees differ in each emirate depending on the location, type and duration of parking; the current amount must be checked on the RTA website or on the booth itself.

   Pick a payment method that suits you

Most drivers settle on one or two — a text message or an app for everyday stops, a Nol card or a rechargeable parking card as a backup when the phone is flat. Keep at least one alternative available, since not every booth offers every method.

   Match the duration you pay for to the time you actually need

   Duration is one of the factors the fee depends on, alongside location and type of parking. Decide how long you will be away before you pay, rather than topping up in a hurry later. If you park in the same area every working day, the seasonal parking card is one of the listed payment options worth asking about.

   If you have special needs, you park free

   People with special needs are entitled to park free of charge. If this applies to you, confirm with RTA what proof or permit you need to display, since the quoted rule states the entitlement but not the paperwork.

   Don't leave a bay unpaid or misused

   Violating parking rules could attract fine/s. That covers the ordinary mistakes — staying past the time you paid for, or parking where the booth says you may not. The amount of any fine is not something we will quote; check the current figures on the RTA website.
