How to compare free zones and find the one that fits your budget
- 1
Start with the Free Zones Gateway
The Free zones Gateway provides a feature to compare the provisions and facilities of free zones in Dubai. This is your starting point: instead of collecting quotes one by one, you see what each zone actually offers side by side.
- 2
Filter by your sector
If you want to start a business in the science sector or energy, you can use the feature to see which free zones allow or support that. Narrowing by sector first matters, because a zone that does not license your activity is not an option at any price.
- 3
Check the facilities you actually need
You can also see which free zones offer facilities such as warehousing and plots of land. If you need physical space, that requirement will shape your costs far more than the licence line alone — so filter for it early rather than after you have shortlisted.
- 4
Use the maps feature to see locations
You can use the maps feature to filter by sector and see the locations of related free zones in Dubai. Location affects your daily logistics — proximity to ports, airports, staff and clients — so it is worth looking at the map, not just the list.
- 5
Look up the costs on Invest in Dubai
Invest in Dubai website provides a fair idea of the costs involved in setting up a business in the various free zones in Dubai. We do not publish figures here, because setup costs vary by zone, package and activity and they change. Check the current amounts on the authority's website before you budget.
- 6
Decide which company type you will register
In a free zone, you can set up one of the following types of companies : Private Limited Liability Company (LLC) Free Zone Company (FZ Co.) Free Zone Establishment (FZE) Public Limited Liability Company (PJSC) branch of a local or international company. You need to check with individual free zone authorities about the type of company they can register — not every zone registers every type.

Clear your trade name before you go further
In most cases, you should check either with the respective free zone authority or the respective with the Department of Economic Development about the permitted trade names and whether the intended name has already been registered. Doing this early avoids reworking your paperwork after a name is rejected.

Confirm everything with the free zone authority directly
Comparison tools give you the shortlist; the free zone authority gives you the binding answer. Before you transfer any money, confirm with them the company type they can register, the facilities available, and the current fees.
