How to Work with Your Local Department of Finance in the UAE

If you run a business in Dubai or another emirate and want to supply goods or services to a local government entity, your point of contact is the emirate's Department of Finance. These departments build and execute the government's general annual budget in cooperation with all relevant local government entities, and they handle the supplier side too — signing contracts, registering suppliers and opening an account for each one to make payments run smoothly. Here is how to approach them.

Working with a local finance department

  1. 1

Find the department for your emirate

Each emirate has its own finance authority: Department of Finance - Abu Dhabi, Department of Finance - Dubai, Department of Finance – Sharjah, Department of Finance – Ajman, Financial Audit Department – Umm Al Quwain, Finance Department - Ras Al Khaimah, and Finance Department - Fujairah. Contact the one that matches where the government entity you want to serve is based.

  2. 2

    Register as a supplier

Local departments of finance are responsible for registering suppliers who want to do business with the local government. Complete their supplier registration so you become an approved counterparty before any contract can be concluded.

  3. 3

    Conclude the government contract

Once registered, the department concludes the government contract with you as a supplier. Read the terms carefully and keep a signed copy for your records.

  4. 4

    Open your supplier account

The department opens an account for every supplier to facilitate financial transactions with the local government. This is the channel through which your payments are processed, so make sure your details are accurate and up to date.

  5. 5

Check current requirements before you start

Any specific fees, timelines or document lists are set by the authority and can change. Confirm the current requirements directly on the relevant department's website before you submit anything.

Fees and timelines may change — verify with the official source.
