Having a baby in Dubai: care, documents and the child's visa

Childbirth in Dubai takes place in licensed hospitals (public and private) supervised by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). After birth you register the child's documents. Below is the honest procedure per the official u.ae portal.

Official source: The Official Portal of the UAE Government (u.ae) · Health & fitness · DHA

Facts from the official u.ae portal ('Health & fitness') and DHA requirements (dha.gov.ae). Parents must hold health insurance covering pregnancy and childbirth; after birth you obtain a birth certificate, passport and residence visa for the child. Insurance and delivery costs depend on the plan and hospital and change — verify on u.ae and dha.gov.ae. We don't invent numbers.

Procedure

  1. 1

    Get maternity health insurance

Make sure in advance that your policy covers pregnancy care and delivery — this is required for residents. Check limits and any waiting period with the insurer.

  2. 2

Choose a hospital and follow your pregnancy

Pick a licensed hospital with a maternity unit (public or private) and see a doctor. Check the delivery package and what insurance covers in advance.

  3. 3

    Get the birth certificate

After birth the hospital issues a birth notification; from it you obtain the official birth certificate (with translation if needed).
