UAE citizens can renew Emirates ID one year before expiry

16 July 2026·Source: Khaleej Times

From July 14, 2026, UAE nationals can renew their Emirates ID cards up to one year before expiry instead of the previous six-month window. If the ID and passport expire on the same date, both can be renewed through a single transaction. This simplifies administrative procedures for citizens and frequent travelers.

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has extended the advance renewal period for Emirates ID cards to match passport renewal timelines. Citizens can now initiate the renewal process a full year before their ID expires, reducing the rush to update documents at the last minute.

Effective from July 14, 2026, this change aligns with the UAE's push for more convenient digital and administrative services. The timing flexibility gives citizens greater control over their documentation and travel readiness.

A notable benefit emerges when both documents expire simultaneously: instead of submitting two separate renewal applications, citizens can now complete both through one integrated transaction. This consolidated approach saves time and reduces duplicate processing.

For anyone regularly traveling or managing multiple family documents, planning ahead during the extended one-year window makes scheduling renewals around their plans much easier.
