Where to find the local laws of the UAE's emirates

Living in Dubai, you sometimes need the actual text of a law or decree — not a summary someone posted online. Each emirate publishes its own legislation through an official gazette, and that gazette is the primary, citable source. Here is how to reach it and what you can expect to find inside.

Offizielle Quelle: Dubai Courts (dubaicourts.gov.ae) / Ministry of Justice (moj.gov.ae)

Guidance per Dubai Courts (dubaicourts.gov.ae) / Ministry of Justice (moj.gov.ae). Details and publishing schedules change — check the authority's website. We don't invent numbers.

How to find and read the laws

  1. 1

Start with the emirate's official gazette

Each emirate issues its legislation through an official gazette, and that is where you look first. For Abu Dhabi, the Official Gazette is issued on a monthly basis in Arabic and English and includes laws and decrees issued by the Ruler of the emirate and decisions of the Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, in addition to circulars and regulations.

  2. 2

Know what the gazette actually contains

The gazette is broader than just laws. Alongside laws and decrees issued by the Ruler, it carries decisions of the Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, plus circulars and regulations. If you are searching for a rule, it may sit under any of these categories, so read across all of them.

  3. 3

    Read in Arabic or English

For Abu Dhabi, the Official Gazette is published in Arabic and English, so you can consult the English text directly. Where an English version exists, treat the Arabic as the governing original if any wording ever seems to differ.

  4. 4

Understand how a law reaches the gazette

It helps to know the path a law travels. The Executive Council in each emirate endorses draft laws and decrees ahead of submitting them to the respective Ruler of the emirate for final approval and issuance. Only after that final approval does a text become issued law and appear in the gazette.

  5. 5

Look up the earliest issues if you need history

If you are researching older legislation, the gazette archive goes back a long way — the first issue of the Official Gazette dates back to 1965. For anything historical, check the authority's website for the full run of past issues.

  6. 6

Confirm current details on the official site

Publishing frequency, available languages and archive access can change over time. Before you rely on anything, confirm the current arrangements on the authority's website rather than on secondary summaries. We don't guess at figures we cannot verify.
