How to Register for Corporate Tax in the UAE

If you run a company in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE, corporate tax now applies to you. Every taxable person — including businesses set up in a Free Zone — has to register with the Federal Tax Authority and get a Corporate Tax Registration Number. Here is what the official rules say and how to work through the process step by step.

Official source: Federal Tax Authority (tax.gov.ae) / Ministry of Finance (mof.gov.ae)

Procedure per Federal Tax Authority (tax.gov.ae) / Ministry of Finance (mof.gov.ae). Fees and timelines change — check the authority's website. We don't invent numbers.

The registration and filing process

  1. 1

Confirm you are a taxable person

All taxable persons are required to register for Corporate Tax. This includes juridical persons established in a UAE Free Zone, who are within the scope of Corporate Tax as taxable persons and need to comply with the requirements set out in the Corporate Tax Law. If your business falls into this group, registration is mandatory.

  2. 2

Register and obtain your Corporate Tax Registration Number

Every taxable person, including Free Zone persons, must register for Corporate Tax and obtain a Corporate Tax Registration Number. Registration is done through the Federal Tax Authority. The exact steps and any fees should be confirmed on the authority's website before you start.

  3. 3

    File your Corporate Tax return

The calculation and payment of Corporate Tax is done through the filing of a Corporate Tax Return with the Federal Tax Authority by the taxable person. You are required to file a return for each Tax Period within 9 months from the end of the relevant period.

  4. 4

Pay any tax due by the same deadline

The same deadline that applies to filing generally applies to the payment of any Corporate Tax due for the Tax Period for which the return is filed. Plan your cash flow so the return and the payment are handled together.

  5. 5

    Know your Tax Period

Your deadlines follow your financial year. The authority illustrates examples for taxable persons with a Tax Period ending on 31 May or 31 December. The UAE issued the Corporate Tax Law on 9 December 2022, which established the legislative framework for the federal corporate tax. Check the current amounts and exact dates for your own case on the authority's website.

Fees and timelines may change — verify with the official source.
