Steps to use less energy at home
- 1
Understand why efficiency matters
There are many reasons behind the growing interest in energy efficiency and rationalisation. Treating power and water as things to use carefully, rather than endlessly, is the starting point for every step below.
- 2
Choose efficient electrical equipment
At the federal level, the UAE promotes the use of efficient electrical equipment. When you replace an appliance, favour models built to run on less power — the national direction is to move efficient equipment into homes and squeeze out the wasteful kind.
- 3
Read the air-conditioning efficiency labels
The UAE launched an efficiency-labelling scheme for window and split-unit air-conditioning systems, eliminating highly inefficient units from the market. Before you buy a window or split unit, look for the label and pick the more efficient class. The scheme is expected to cut energy use by 500MW per year.

Join the national conservation habit
Under the theme 'Save to sustain', MOEI launched the National Energy Conservation campaign to raise public awareness and knowledge of electricity and water conservation. It focuses on energy efficiency across buildings, transport, manufacturing and agriculture — at home, that means small daily choices in how you cool, light and use water.
- 5
Know who governs energy in Dubai
The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) set a governance framework to streamline existing energy practices across its entities and optimise synergy and energy efficiency. Its efforts include demand abatement and efficiency measures, evaluating energy consumption, developing intensity mapping for the emirate, and introducing abatement technologies for water, power and transportation fuel.

Check the current details before you act
Specific programme figures, appliance ratings and any incentives can change over time. For the exact current amounts and eligibility, check the authority's website rather than relying on older numbers.
