How it works

   Check the minimum age first

   Under Article 5 of the UAE Labour Law, it is prohibited to employ juveniles under the age of 15. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation does not issue work permits to juveniles below this age, whether they are Emiratis or expatriate residents.

   Make sure the job is allowed

   The role must not fall within the list of prohibited occupations for juveniles, and must not be among the hazardous or restricted jobs determined by ministerial resolution — except for skilled roles at levels 1 and 2, or licensed professions. The position must also be consistent with the activity of the establishment.

   Confirm the establishment is in good standing

   The establishment's licence must be valid, and there must be no violations leading to suspension of its activity under the legal regulations. Without this, the permit cannot proceed.

   Have the right person apply

   The application for the work permit must be submitted by the person legally authorised to sign on behalf of the establishment. Note that the juvenile must not already hold an active work permit.

   Know what is not required

   No insurance or bank guarantee is required for the issuance of a juvenile work permit. Any current fees or processing times should be checked on the authority's website, since we do not quote figures that are not published there.
