What to know about your contract

   When a contract simply continues

   If your contract is not renewed or extended when it expires, but you and your employer both keep performing your obligations, the contract is considered renewed under the same terms and conditions as the original.

   Rollovers still count toward your benefits

   Any extension or renewal of the terms of your employment contract is added when calculating your end of services benefits, so continued time on the job is not lost.

   The probation period

   Your probation period must not exceed six months, and it cannot be extended for another term.

   Notice during probation

   If the employer wants to terminate you for any reason during probation, they must give 14 days' prior written notice. If you resign during probation intending to leave the job and the UAE, you must give prior written notice of 14 days.

   Non-compete restrictions

   Article 10 of the UAE Labour Law lets employers include non-compete restrictions in the contract. The maximum restrictive period is for two years from the date of the expiry of the employment contract.

   Student and trainee contracts

   For a national student, the contract duration is one year, renewable with the agreement of the employer and the national student until graduation.
