   Most of the UAE's mountains are part of the Hajjar Mountain range, which stretches across the south-eastern Arabian Peninsula. The gravel plains at their edge mark where the desert meets the higher ground, making this a striking area to visit.

   The UAE's coastal and marine ecosystems support a rich variety of marine life and habitats. Mangroves form an integral part of the marine ecosystem. These ecosystems also help protect coastlines, support biodiversity and contribute to climate change mitigation, so treat them with care when you visit.

   Visit the wetlands and mangroves

   Wetlands are one of the four major ecosystem varieties. Khor Kalba, an important coastal area in Sharjah, is recognised for its mangrove ecosystem and rich biodiversity. It is a good place to see how mangroves shelter wildlife and guard the shoreline.
